The march to Normani<\/a>\u2018s solo debut has been a long, but commercially successful one. \u201cLove Lies\u201d her duet with Khalid and \u201cDancing With a Stranger,\u201d with Sam Smith,<\/a> are certified triple platinum double platinum, respectively. But during an interview at Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s Morning Sessions last Friday during Lollapalooza, Normani revealed that Ariana Grande<\/a> had a special hand in her upcoming single.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s been very supportive of me too. I talk to her about the creative process,\u201d Normani explained. \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018When did you know your album was done.\u2019 She was just like, \u2018Honestly, you\u2019ll know. Nobody will have to tell you. You\u2019ll feel it. Just trust your instinct; trust your gut. And listen to that voice inside of you, and it\u2019ll tell you that you\u2019re done. Just take your time, too, and have fun in the process and make sure that it\u2019s something that you love. She\u2019s dope. She also has a part in the record that I\u2019m releasing, too. She wrote on it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cWaves\u201d<\/a> singer went on to discuss how the new single is a stylistic departure from her most recent work.<\/p>\n

\u201cI recorded this song a while back,\u201d Normani said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s crazy because, I\u2019ll be on Twitter, and [fans] will be like, \u2018Sis, where\u2019s the new music? Where\u2019s the new music? I\u2019m like, \u2018Guys, it\u2019s coming. I promise it\u2019s coming.\u2019 I shot the video probably a month ago. It\u2019s going to be worth the wait\u2026It\u2019s an upbeat [song]. It\u2019s a feel good record. I think that everybody will really love it. It was the first opportunity that I had to have fun. I think that people have been waiting for me to have fun and I\u2019ve had so many records like \u201cWaves\u201d and \u201cLove Lies\u201d and Sam [Smith\u2019s \u201cDancing With a Stranger\u201d], which are a little bit more R&B<\/a> smooth sailing.\u201d<\/p>\n
