Titled \u201cThe Clash: London Calling,\u201d the exhibit will feature more than 100 personal items from the band\u2019s archive, including some that are previously unseen. These include bassist Paul Simonon\u2019s Fender guitar, which he destroyed in 1979 for the photograph on the cover of <em>London Calling<\/em>, the band\u2019s third album.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit will also display items like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/joe-strummer\/\" id=\"auto-tag_joe-strummer\" data-tag=\"joe-strummer\">Joe Strummer<\/a>\u2019s notebook and typewriter, Mick Jones\u2019 handwritten album sequencing note and drummer Topper Headon\u2019s drumsticks. The 120-page book features hand-written lyrics, notes, photos and previously unseen material from when the album was made and will come with a copy of the album on CD.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_871431\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"32\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-871431\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-871431\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Joe_Strummers_note_book_c_Cabash_Productions_Cropped.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"Joe Strummer's notebook. \" width=\"300\" height=\"188\"><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-871431\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Joe Strummer\u2019s notebook.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201c<em>London Calling<\/em> is The Clash\u2019s defining album, a rallying call for Londoners and people around the world,\u201d said Beatrice Behlen, senior curator of fashion and decorative arts at the Museum of London. \u201cThe album\u2019s lyrics reflected contemporary concerns, many of which are still relevant today, as it moved away from traditional punk by adopting and reworking much wider musical influences. At the Museum of London, we tell the stories of our capital through the objects and memories of the people who have lived here. This display will provide a brand new, exciting and vibrant take on this, showcasing rarely seen personal objects and telling the incredible story of how <em>London Calling<\/em> was, and for many still is, the sound of a generation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition will open November 15th and run through the spring of 2020.
