Normani<\/a> isn\u2019t a slacker, even when she was a child, as the video for her new single, \u201cMotivation,\u201d indicates. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>, she revealed that Ariana Grande<\/a> co-wrote the track.<\/p>\n

While the lyrics point to enticing a paramour, the video begins with following dreams to fruition. The clip opens with Normani as a child, watching BET\u2019s 106 & Park<\/em> and imagining that she has the Number One video. Soon the visual morphs into Normani\u2019s current clip that she stars in, confidently leading others through impressive dance moves on a neighborhood street, on the basketball court and also in the rain as she flirts with the one she desires.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a break you off, let me be your motivation\/To stay and give it tonight,\u201d she sings over the buoyant, horn-tipped melody. \u201cAnd, baby, turn around, let me give you innovation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Normani spent much of her year touring with Grande along with a spattering of festival dates. \u201cMotivation\u201d is the singer\u2019s first new song since her Sam Smith duet \u201cDancing With a Stranger\u201d and her first non-collaboration since embarking on a solo career following Fifth Harmony<\/a>\u2019s \u201cindefinite hiatus.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI recorded this song a while back,\u201d Normani told Rolling Stone<\/em> during Lollapalooza weekend. \u201cAnd it\u2019s crazy because, I\u2019ll be on Twitter, and [fans] will be like, \u2018Sis, where\u2019s the new music? Where\u2019s the new music? I\u2019m like, \u2018Guys, it\u2019s coming. I promise it\u2019s coming.\u2019 I shot the video probably a month ago. It\u2019s going to be worth the wait\u2026It\u2019s an upbeat [song]. It\u2019s a feel good record. I think that everybody will really love it. It was the first opportunity that I had to have fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
