{"id":2447730,"date":"2019-08-19T14:29:52","date_gmt":"2019-08-19T20:29:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=873580"},"modified":"2019-08-19T14:29:52","modified_gmt":"2019-08-19T20:29:52","slug":"chris-brown-felony-battery-charge-dropped-over-tampa-nightclub-incident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/music-news\/chris-brown-felony-battery-charge-dropped-over-tampa-nightclub-incident\/","title":{"rendered":"Chris Brown: Felony Battery Charge Dropped Over Tampa Nightclub Incident"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/chris-brown-gets-away-with-it.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The state of Florida has dropped a felony battery charge against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/chris-brown\/\" id=\"auto-tag_chris-brown\" data-tag=\"chris-brown\">Chris Brown<\/a> stemming from an April 2017 incident at a Tampa nightclub, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/news\/publicsafety\/hillsborough-prosecutors-drop-felony-battery-charge-against-singer-chris-brown-20190819\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><em>Tampa Bay Times<\/em><\/a> reports<em>.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Brown was accused of sucker-punching the club\u2019s in-house photographer, who was reportedly taking pictures of the singer, even though he\u2019d been warned not to. <span class=\"s1\">The photographer, who suffered a split lip, later went to the hospital and pressed charges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palmbeachpost.com\/news\/local\/breaking-singer-chris-brown-arrested-after-west-palm-area-concert\/jjlg1I4WgQbVWoQLZWkclI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cFlorida pick-up only\u201d<\/a> warrant for Brown was issued in August 2017, meaning only local authorities could arrest him. The singer was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/chris-brown-arrested-on-felony-assault-warrant-in-florida-696474\/\">taken into custody<\/a> in July 2018 following a concert in West Palm Beach, Florida.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>While court records confirmed the dropped charges, the Hillsborough State Attorney\u2019s Office did not offer any details as to why the charges were dropped. In a statement, a spokesperson for the State Attorney\u2019s Office told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>, \u201cAfter a thorough review of the facts and information from the alleged victim, our office determined there was insufficient evidence to prosecute.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In a statement shared with <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>, Brown\u2019s lawyer, Kevin Naper, said the singer was \u201cwrongfully accused,\u201d adding, \u201cThe State Attorney conducted an extremely thorough, comprehensive and thoughtful review and analysis of the evidence (or LACK of evidence) and correctly concluded there wasn\u2019t a crime here. Mr. Brown is appreciative of the State Attorney\u2019s professionalism and thorough review and looks forward to seeing his many fans in Tampa on August 31.\u201d Brown is scheduled to perform at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida August 31st.<\/p>\n<p>The dropped battery charge is the latest in a string of legal issues for Brown, who released his ninth LP, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/rs-charts-top-200-albums-chris-brown-black-keys-856428\/\"><em>Indigo<\/em><\/a>, in June.
