Kim Gordon<\/a> unveiled the bruising new single, \u201cSketch Artist,\u201d from her debut solo album No Home Record<\/em>, set to arrive October 11th via Matador.<\/p>\n

The former Sonic Youth<\/a> member also sahred a video for \u201cSketch Artist,\u201d directed by the Berlin-based experimental filmmaker Loretta Fahrenholz. In the clip, Gordon plays a driver for a ride share app called \u201cUnter,\u201d and as she drives passengers \u2014 including Broad City<\/em> star Abbi Jacobson \u2014 around nighttime Los Angeles, her cold stare shocks pedestrians on the street into dancing fits.<\/p>\n

No Home Record<\/em> \u2014 whose title alludes to filmmaker Chantal Akerman\u2019s No Home Movie \u2014<\/em> will feature eight other tracks from Gordon, including her 2016 single \u201cMurdered Out.\u201d Justin Raisen (Charli XCX, Ariel Pink, Sky Ferreira), Shawn Everett (The War on Drugs, The Voidz, Jim James) and composer\/filmmaker Jake Meginsky all contributed production.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Why a solo record? And why now?\u2019 I don\u2019t know, but it wouldn\u2019t have happened without the persistence of Justin Raisen,\u201d Gordon said in a statement. \u201cLiving in L.A. the last few years, it feels like home, but the transience of the place makes it feel sometimes like no home.\u201d<\/p>\n

While No Home Record<\/em> marks Gordon\u2019s first solo effort, her post-Sonic Youth output includes three records with Bill Nace as Body\/Head. The duo\u2019s first album, Coming Apart<\/em><\/a>, arrived in 2013, while their most recent, The Switch<\/em><\/a>, was released last July.<\/p>\n

In addition to her music career, Gordon recently opened her solo art exhibitions \u201cShe Bites Her Tender Mind\u201d at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin and \u201cLo-Fi Glamour\u201d at the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA.<\/p>\n
