Meat Loaf<\/a> joined the cast of the Bat Out of Hell<\/em><\/a> musical<\/a> on Tuesday evening for \u201cYou Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night).\u201d The New York performance marked the singer\u2019s first time onstage in over two years \u2014 he last appeared at the Bat Out of Hell<\/em>\u2018s Toronto launch<\/a> in May 2017.<\/p>\n

\u201cOK, you guys have been wanting to do this long ago, so we\u2019re going to do it now,\u201d Meat Loaf told the crowd after seizing the mic from cast member Andrew Polec. \u201cGive me a little, \u2018You took the words right out of my mouth!’\u201d The cast takes turns singing each verse, with Loaf joining in for the chorus.<\/p>\n

The singer has been plagued by severe back problems and vocal damage, leaving him unable to tour, much less perform. Onstage in Canada in June 2016, he collapsed while singing his 1993 hit \u201cI\u2019d Do Anything for Love (But I Won\u2019t Do That).\u201d \u201cI was sick and when you get older you get dehydrated,\u201d he told Rolling Stone<\/a><\/em> a month later. \u201cI hit the high note on that song and I got really, really dizzy. I went, \u2018Oh, my God, I\u2019m gonna pass out.\u2019 I didn\u2019t want to fall forward and break my neck going off the stage, so I started to go down easily and halfway down I went out. I didn\u2019t wake up until we got to the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a Rolling Stone<\/em> feature last year<\/a> however, Meat Loaf denied rumors that he can no longer sing. \u201cMorons!\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m going, \u2018Before you make a comment, learn something about music. Learn something about tone.\u2019 People saying, \u2018You can\u2019t sing anymore.\u2019 I mean, OK, I can\u2019t get up to the B\u2019s anymore, but I can still hit the high C\u2019s, and A is a really strong note, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Polec, Lena Hall, Christina Bennington, Danielle Steers and Tyrick Wiltez Jones have been impressing fans with their vocal powers \u2014 even if Jim Steinman\u2019s musical is not going to satisfy everyone<\/a>. Bat Out of Hell<\/em> runs through September 8th.<\/p>\n
