Charlie Puth<\/a> is back with a new single, \u201cI Warned Myself,\u201d and an accompanying music video. The video, directed by Brendan Vaughan, marks Puth\u2019s first new music since the release of his 2018 Grammy-nominated album Voicenotes<\/em><\/a>. The song was written and co-produced by Puth alongside Benny Blanco and centers on an obsessive relationship. \u201c\u2018I Warned Myself’\u201d is about a vicious cycle of going back to someone continuously,\u201d Puth wrote on Twitter<\/a>, \u201cknowing deep down that they aren\u2019t any good for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the dramatic video unfolds, Puth sings, \u201cYou mess with my heart\/ Now you\u2019re the reason why\/ Warned myself that I shouldn\u2019t play with fire\/ I can tell that I\u2019ll do it one more time.\u201d He appears in various situations with a female love interest, including laying on a red carpet and participating in a photoshoot. The singer also drives through the desert solo in a red sports car (and later stands on top of it as it speeds away).<\/p>\n

Puth recently appeared on a remix<\/a> of 5 Second of Summer\u2019s \u201cEasier,\u201d which he co-wrote, but hasn\u2019t dropped any of his own music since Voicenotes<\/em>. The singer has confirmed that he will release three new songs this summer, with \u201cI Warned Myself\u201d being the first in the set. Puth will perform as part of Midtown Music Festival in Atlanta in September and at Rock in Rio in Rio de Janeiro in October.<\/p>\n
