Joe, Transformers, My Little Pony, Power Rangers, and much, much more \u2014 announced on Thursday that it will join forces with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/death-row-records\/\" id=\"auto-tag_death-row-records\" data-tag=\"death-row-records\">Death Row Records<\/a>, a label synonymous with West Coast gangster rap thanks to artists like Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Tupac.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>More precisely, Hasbro purchased Entertainment One, a multimedia company that owns the<\/span> <span>children\u2019s franchises Peppa Pig and PJ Masks (these are apparently popular among the youth, though they surely pale in comparison with Mr. Potato Head). Entertainment One also has a music division, which happens to be one of the biggest independent labels in the industry \u2014 it<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/business\/record-labels\/8508792\/indie-labels-largest-revenue-estimates\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><span>took in more than $30 million<\/span><\/a> <span>in revenue in the first quarter of 2019. And back in 2013, eOne<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/the-juice\/5740495\/tupac-shakurs-mom-files-lawsuit-over-royalties\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><span>spent around $280 million<\/span><\/a> <span>to buy the catalog of Death Row, which had previously been forced to declare bankruptcy in 2006.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The cross-branding opportunities here basically write themselves, but there is no word on whether a Death Row Records-themed Monopoly game is forthcoming. There are, however, \u201c<\/span><span>$130 million in cost synergies\u201d available to both companies if they pass Go by 2022,<\/span> <span>according <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2019\/08\/hasbro-acquires-entertainment-one-studio-1202702051\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to <em>Deadline<\/em><\/a>.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In a statement, Hasbro CEO<\/span> <span>Brian Goldner celebrated his purchase. \u201cThe acquisition of eOne adds beloved story-led global family brands that deliver strong operating returns to Hasbro\u2019s portfolio and provides a pipeline of new brand creation driven by family-oriented storytelling,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Mr. Potato Head and the Power Rangers did not respond to requests for comment.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/hasbro-death-row-records-entertainment-one-875805\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Rolling Stone<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hasbro, a massive toy company that is the source of countless hours of childhood joy \u2014 thanks to Mr. Potato Head, Monopoly, G.I.
