Normani<\/a> performed a delightful and expertly choreographed rendition of her new single \u201cMotivation\u201d at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n

Recalling the song\u2019s video<\/a>, Normani began the performance lounging on a basketball hoop before descending to a neon pink, makeshift court where she belted the track and ran through a impressive routine with an array of back-up dancers. Halfway through the song, Normani commandeered the stage solo for her own dance break before welcoming the troupe back for a bombastic finale.<\/p>\n

Normani wrote \u201cMotivation\u201d with pop\u2019s heaviest hitters: Ariana Grande, Max Martin, Savan Kotecha, and Ilya Salmanzadeh, the same team behind previous Grande singles like \u201cBreak Up With Your Girlfriend, I\u2019m Bored\u201d and \u201cNo Tears Left to Cry.\u201d \u201cI recorded this song a while back,\u201d Normani told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> before the release of the single. \u201cAnd it\u2019s crazy because, I\u2019ll be on Twitter, and [fans] will be like, \u2018Sis, where\u2019s the new music? Where\u2019s the new music? I\u2019m like, \u2018Guys, it\u2019s coming. I promise it\u2019s coming\u2019\u2026 It\u2019s going to be worth the wait.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Normani finally released the track on August 16th, pent-up demand caused \u201cMotivation\u201d to immediately take off on streaming services. The dance-filled video quickly racked up more than 25 million views on YouTube.<\/p>\n

Previous Normani singles have also performed well at radio \u2014 both \u201cLove Lies\u201d and \u201cDancing With a Stranger\u201d went Number One at Top 40 \u2014 and \u201cMotivation\u201d is off to a strong start on the airwaves as well, up 1,000 spins<\/a> week over week. The track debuted at Number 25 on the RS<\/em> 100<\/a>.<\/p>\n
