With this year marking the 25th anniversary of their debut (which we\u2019re celebrating with our just-published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/weezer-blue-album-25th-anniversary-877089\/\">feature on their origin story<\/a> and more to come), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/weezer\/\" id=\"auto-tag_weezer\" data-tag=\"weezer\">Weezer<\/a> will be eligible for the next class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If and when they get inducted, founding bassist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/matt-sharp\/\" id=\"auto-tag_matt-sharp\" data-tag=\"matt-sharp\">Matt Sharp<\/a>, who parted ways with the band after 1995\u2019s <em>Pinkerton<\/em>, won\u2019t be interested in reuniting with Weezer onstage at the ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t imagine so,\u201d Sharp tells <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cI can\u2019t see music quite like that. I\u2019m grateful for any support given to me because I know it\u2019s a privilege. The idea of a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame seems like\u2026 I can\u2019t quite get my head around what that is or what its purpose is. I don\u2019t really think of music in that competitive nature \u2014 how many three pointers did we make? But if something like that were to happen, it\u2019s <em>their<\/em> moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Weezer\u2019s current bassist, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/scott-shriner\/\" id=\"auto-tag_scott-shriner\" data-tag=\"scott-shriner\">Scott Shriner<\/a>, has been in the band since 2001, and Sharp wants to defer to him. \u201cScott\u2019s been in the band many years longer than I was at this point,\u201d Sharp says. \u201cIt\u2019s been a minute. And I would want him to have his space and enjoy that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sharp has an album in the can with his longtime project the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/rentals\/\" id=\"auto-tag_rentals\" data-tag=\"rentals\">Rentals<\/a>, this time assisted by Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and producer Dave Fridmann (who engineered part of <em>Pinkerton<\/em>), which he hopes to put out in the near future.
