Marvin Gaye<\/a>\u2019s legendary May 1972 concert in Washington D.C., featuring the singer\u2019s only full album performance of his classic What\u2019s Going On<\/em>, will be reissued as a standalone live album for the first time this October.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s Going On Live<\/em>, due out October 18th via Motown\/UMe, highlights Gaye\u2019s May 1st, 1972 performance at the Kennedy Center, a gig that marked both the culmination of his hometown Washington D.C.\u2019s Marvin Gaye Day as well as the singer\u2019s first concert in four years.<\/p>\n

In addition to the near-full album performance of What\u2019s Going On<\/em> \u2013 a delay in switching reel-to-reel tapes at the time results in the exclusion of \u201cMercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)\u201d \u2013 the live album also features Gaye\u2019s lone live performances of four songs: \u201cThat\u2019s The Way Love Is\u201d and \u201cYou\u201d \u2013 as part of the 13-minute concert-opening \u201cSixties Medley \u2013 along with \u201cRight On\u201d and \u201cWholy Holy\u201d; Motown\/UMe shared the latter as a preview of What\u2019s Going On Live.<\/p>\n
