Roger Waters<\/a> participated in a pro-Julian Assange<\/a> rally at London\u2019s Home Office on Monday where he pressed for the release of the Wikileaks founder from prison and performed the 1975 Pink Floyd classic \u201cWish You Were Here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do we put ourselves in the position of a Julian Assange in solitary confinement,\u201d he asked the crowd, \u201cor with that kid in Syria or Palestine or Rohingya, being blown to bits by these people in this building here?\u201d<\/p>\n

Standing in front of a giant banner that read \u201cDon\u2019t Extradite Assange,\u201d Waters also told an anecdote about his friend, a Junior Minister in the office of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who was sent to the airport to meet former Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev in the 1980s.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Gorbachev would like to know your opinion on the following question,\u201d his friend was asked. \u201cWhat do you think would have been different in world history if President Khrushchev was assassinated rather than President Kennedy?\u201d His friend had no idea how to answer the question and several uncomfortable minutes passed before Gorbachev provided the punchline: \u201cPresident Gorbachev believes it unlikely that Mr. [Aristotle] Onassis would have married Mrs. Khrushchev.\u201d<\/p>\n

This was a long-winded buildup to Waters saying he was going to visit with Gorbachev in October. \u201cHe\u2019s getting to be very old now and we owe him an enormous debt of gratitude for understanding some of these things we\u2019re sharing here together outside of our dilapidated, miscreant Home Office,\u201d Waters said. \u201cI will shut up now and sing this song.\u201d<\/p>\n
