Stock \u2018Monster\u2019 Reissue With Demos, 1995 Concert, \u20182019 Remix\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/248255ul.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>R.E.M. will mark the 25th anniversary of their 1994 LP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/monster-2-118933\/\"><em>Monster<\/em><\/a> with a deluxe six-disc reissue that boasts unreleased demos, a 1995 concert recording and a \u201c2019 remix\u201d of the original album.<\/p>\n<p>Due out November 1st and available to <a href=\"https:\/\/store.remhq.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">pre-order<\/a> now, the <em>Monster<\/em> reissue boasts 15 unheard demo recordings as well as producer Scott Litt\u2019s new remix of the album, which scales back the guitar sound to focus on Michael Stipe\u2019s vocals; hear the \u201c2019 remix\u201d version of \u201cWhat\u2019s the Frequency, Kenneth?\u201d below:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KNZEvEtqHbg?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe original 1994 version was dense in guitars and feedback with the vocals mixed within the sonic wall, but on this alternative version the guitars are pulled back and the vocals pushed forward to create a more open sound and showcase often-revealing lyrics,\u201d a statement read. Litt, who produced <em>Monster<\/em>, was never satisfied with the original mix. \u201cI think as [Litt] listened to it over the years, he began to hear a different way to realize those songs,\u201d Mike Mills said of the new remix.<\/p>\n<p>R.E.M.\u2019s June 3rd, 1995 concert \u2013 a 25-song gig recorded in Chicago in the midst of the Monster Tour \u2013 will also be included in the set, while a Blu-ray will contain Monster\u2019s music videos, the \u201cRoad Movie\u201d concert film, a 5.1 mix of the LP and more.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Monster<\/em> reissue also features new interviews with each member of R.E.M. and new \u201creimagined\u201d artwork from the album\u2019s original cover artist Chris Bilheimer.
