Kelly<\/a> \u2013 one of four legal battles the singer is facing \u2013 has scheduled a tentative trial date for the singer of April 27th, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors added that they expect the trial against the singer to last three weeks. Kelly\u2019s legal team argued that the trial date did not give them sufficient enough time to review the federal government\u2019s case, as the lawyers are currently juggling multiple criminal cases against the vocalist. The status hearing for Kelly\u2019s federal trial came one day after his lawyers revealed that he been moved from solitary confinement at a Chicago federal prison to general population.<\/p>\n<p>At the hearing, Kelly\u2019s lawyers argued that the singer should be allowed to bond out while awaiting federal charges, but the judge denied that request, <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7chicago.com\/r-kelly-trial-date-set-on-federal-sex-crimes-charges-filed-in-chicago-\/5514357\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">ABC 7 Chicago reports<\/a>. The legal team will once again ask the judge to reconsider the no-bond order at the next hearing on September 18th.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/crime\/2019\/9\/4\/20849314\/r-kellys-federal-chicago-trial-april-2020\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Chicago Sun Times<\/em> notes<\/a> that, even if the Chicago judge allowed Kelly to post bail, the judge overseeing Kelly\u2019s Brooklyn federal case similarly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/r-kelly-not-guilty-plea-sex-trafficking-new-york-866722\/\">denied the singer bail<\/a> and could keep Kelly behind bars while he awaits trial regardless of the Chicago judge\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Leonard, one of Kelly\u2019s lawyers, told reporters that reviewing the prosecutor\u2019s case \u201csupports our position that factually and legally, there\u2019s deep flaws in the case here and there\u2019s deep flaws in the case in New York.\u201d The Illinois indictment has 13 counts of child pornography, enticing a minor into illegal sexual activity and a conspiracy to obstruct justice, the latter relating to Kelly\u2019s previous child pornography trial.<\/p>\n<p>Kelly also faces a federal indictment on charges of racketeering, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/r-kelly-charged-11-counts-sexual-assault-842381\/\">Cook County, Illinois state charges<\/a> of sexual abuse and a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/r-kelly-charged-soliciting-minor-minnesota-867708\/\">solicitation charge in Minnesota<\/a>.
