The first U.S. date is July 17th at Seattle\u2019s T-Mobile Park and wraps up August 29th at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. All three bands, however, will come together Tuesday night for a special preview show at the Whiskey A Go Go in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>Green Day have been off the road since their <em>Revolution Radio<\/em> tour wrapped up in November 2017, while Fall Out Boy have had a largely quiet year with the exception of three festival dates this summer. Weezer, however, have been extremely active ever since their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/weezer-weird-al-yankovic-africa-video-728416\/\">cover of Toto\u2019s \u201cAfrica\u201d<\/a> became a surprise radio hit last year.<\/p>\n<p>The Los Angeles-based ska punk band the Interrupters are also on the tour and will play first every night. They will be followed by Weezer, Fall Out Boy and then Green Day to close out the show.<\/p>\n<p>Armstrong said the <em>Hella Mega<\/em> tour was a Green Day idea. \u201cW<span>e talked about how we weren\u2019t really wanting to do stadiums and do something that was like throwback to the Monsters of Rock Tour,\u201d he said, referencing a series of metal tours in the 1980s and early 1990s featuring Van Halen, Metallica, Faith No More, Dio and Aerosmith. \u201cThere was, of course, Fall Out Boy and Weezer and now we\u2019re stoked.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Wentz made a slightly different historical comparison. \u201cI remember, in the 1990s, there was this one summer, and Guns N\u2019 Roses [and] Metallica went on the stadium tour and my parents didn\u2019t let me go to it,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I feel trapped in that forever and we wanted to recreate that memory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To promote the tour, all three bands released new songs. Green Day\u2019s song \u201cFather of All\u2026\u201d comes from their upcoming album of the same name<em>,<\/em> which arrives in February. \u201c[The album] is&nbsp;only 26 minutes long, so it\u2019s the shortest record we\u2019ve made, I think since <em>Dookie<\/em> or <em>Insomnia,\u201d<\/em> Billie Joe Armstrong told Zane Lowe on Apple Music\u2019s Beats 1. \u201cI realized I hate long songs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Kh3eZyD0j8g?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Weezer\u2019s new song \u201cThe End of the Game\u201d comes from their upcoming LP <em>Van Weezer<\/em>, which will arrive next May. \u201cIt\u2019s like <em>The Blue Album<\/em> but with more riffs,\u201d Cuomo told Lowe. \u201cMetal, hard rock riffs. But it\u2019s still pretty catchy pop rock.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5-OHChNu_1o?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Fall Out Boy wrote their new song \u201cDear Future (Hands Up),\u201d featuring Wyclef Jean, for their upcoming compilation album <em>Greatest Hits: Believers Never Die \u2013 Volume Two<\/em>. \u201cWe\u2019ve always been big fans of Fugees and Wyclef,\u201d Wentz told Lowe. \u201cHe\u2019s got an incredible sense of melody that\u2019s kind of out there. It\u2019s like you can tell it\u2019s a mix from all over kind of the globe, which is cool and super inspired by seeing my kids that they just listen to song to song to song to song and it\u2019s going from Queen to [Lil Uzi Vert].\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/C20GmQbxBLM?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Green Day and Weezer both broke through to mainstream success in 1994 thanks to multiplatinum albums that spawned a series of goofy videos that went into heavy rotation on MTV. Their paths have diverged over the years, but they remain two of the most popular acts from that generation still on the road.<\/p>\n<p>Fall Out Boy achieved mainstream success a decade after Green Day and Weezer\u2019s initial surge of popularity, but they are huge fans of both bands. In 2015, the band inducted Green Day into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. \u201cEverything you guys do is punk rock in the sense that you\u2019ve never gone the easy route, the obvious route, the safe route,\u201d Wentz said that night. \u201cYou\u2019ve never repeated yourselves, you\u2019ve never done anything to please the suits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wentz also told the crowd that Fall Out Boy had never opened up for Green Day. \u201cHonestly part of us kind of likes it that way,\u201d he said. \u201cBecause Green Day is honestly one of the best live bands on the planet right now. If you\u2019ve ever opened for them, they put on a show that\u2019s so epic and engaging, that the audience absolutely forgot about you halfway through their first legendary singalong chorus and an assault of confetti cannons.
