Bruce Springsteen<\/a> doesn\u2019t turn 70 until September 23rd, but Lucy Dacus<\/a> is celebrating early with a surging cover of \u201cDancing in the Dark.\u201d The track is the latest installment in Dacus\u2019 holiday (and Springsteen birthday)-themed series the singer has shared throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Dacus first covered \u201cDancing in the Dark\u201d during a set at New York\u2019s Bowery Ballroom<\/a> in 2016, but the recorded version offers a more polished, sprightly take on the 1984 classic, replacing the signature synthesizers with searing riffs. \u201cI\u2019m just tired and bored with myself,\u201d she sings, sounding almost defeated. \u201cHey there baby, I could use just a little help.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dacus also released the cover in honor of her father\u2019s birthday, the biggest Springsteen fan she knows. \u201cBruce\u2019s birthday should be a national holiday,\u201d she told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> earlier this year. \u201cIt definitely is in the Dacus household. I hated him in middle school because my dad loved him so much, but then if you listen, it\u2019s undeniable that he is a poet and a keen observer of the world\u2026 and the songs are bops.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDancing in the Dark\u201d is the fourth song from Dacus\u2019 holiday song series. She previously released a cover of Edith Piaf\u2019s \u201cLa Vie En Rose\u201d<\/a> in honor of Valentine\u2019s Day, \u201cMy Mother & I\u201d<\/a> for Mother\u2019s Day and \u201cForever Half Mast\u201d<\/a> for Fourth of July.<\/p>\n

Dacus opened for Mitski at the singer\u2019s farewell shows<\/a> in Central Park last week. She\u2019s currently on tour throughout the rest of the year, making stops at Los Angeles\u2019 Teragram Ballroom on October 26th and New York\u2019s Webster Hall on December 5th. The trek will conclude at 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. on December 7th.<\/p>\n
