The track will appear on Robertson\u2019s new album, <em>Sinematic<\/em>, out September 20th.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cDead End Kid\u201d boasts a steady and heavy blues groove, over which Robertson scatters psych-tinged guitar licks and reminisces, in a sharp whisper, about growing up in Toronto and trying to prove wrong those who doubted his ambitions. Hansard provides backing vocals on the track, and the pair combine for a particularly thrilling moment when Robertson rasps and Hansard wails the line, \u201cSleeping in the subways, hiding in the underground\/My momma was looking for me, but I was nowhere to be found.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cDead End Kid\u201d follows previously-released <em>Sinematic<\/em> tracks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/robbie-robertson-let-love-reign-song-872034\/\">\u201cLet Love Reign\u201d<\/a> \u2014 which also features Hansard \u2014 and \u201cI Hear You Paint Houses,\u201d which features Van Morrison. <em>Sinematic<\/em> marks Robertson\u2019s first solo album since 201\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/how-to-become-clairvoyant-87901\/\"><em>How to Become Clairvoyant<\/em><\/a> and was partly inspired by his work on the soundtrack for Martin Scorsese\u2019s upcoming mob film, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/movies\/movie-news\/robert-de-niro-al-pacino-joe-pesci-martin-scorsese-the-irishman-trailer-865634\/\"><em>The Irishman<\/em><\/a>, while others draw from the work he did for his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/robbie-robertsons-chronicle-of-life-with-the-band-10-things-we-learned-106690\/\">2016 memoir <em>Testimony<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/robbie-robertson-new-album-interview-861278\/\">interview with <em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>, Robertson spoke about how the book pushed him towards writing about more personal experiences in his music, which is something he\u2019d largely avoided throughout his career. \u201cIt opens a door and some fresh air comes in and things that used to feel too smoky and now aired out a little,\u201d he said. \u201cIt feels good to shed that skin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/robbie-robertson-glen-hansard-dead-end-kid-new-song-883471\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Rolling Stone<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Robbie Robertson recalls his hardscrabble youth on the new song \u201cDead End Kid,\u201d featuring Irish singer Glen Hansard.
