{"id":2448762,"date":"2019-09-16T06:51:18","date_gmt":"2019-09-16T12:51:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=884922"},"modified":"2019-09-16T06:51:18","modified_gmt":"2019-09-16T12:51:18","slug":"weezer-honor-ric-ocasek-when-you-were-his-friend-it-was-for-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/music-news\/weezer-honor-ric-ocasek-when-you-were-his-friend-it-was-for-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Weezer Honor Ric Ocasek: \u2018When You Were His Friend, It Was for Life\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/GettyImages-946425770.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/weezer\/\" id=\"auto-tag_weezer\" data-tag=\"weezer\">Weezer<\/a> paid tribute to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/ric-ocasek\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ric-ocasek\" data-tag=\"ric-ocasek\">Ric Ocasek<\/a>, the former lead singer of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/the-cars\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-cars\" data-tag=\"the-cars\">the Cars<\/a> and renowned rock producer, who helmed three of Weezer\u2019s biggest albums, including their 1994 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/weezer-blue-album-249589\/\">self-titled debut<\/a>, better known as \u201cThe Blue Album.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/ric-ocasek-cars-dead-obituary-884792\/\">Ocasek died<\/a> Sunday at the age of 75.<\/p>\n<p><span title=\"Edited\">\u201cThe whole Weezer family is devastated by the loss of our friend and mentor Ric Ocasek, who passed away Sunday,\u201d the band wrote. \u201cRic meant so much to us. He produced three key Weezer albums, Blue, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/weezer-92120\/\">Green<\/a> and 2014\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/everything-will-be-alright-in-the-end-108313\/\"><em>Everything<\/em> [<em>Will Be Alright in the<\/em> <em>End<\/em>]<\/a>, and taught all of us so much about music, recording and songcraft. But more importantly he taught us that one can be in a respected position of great power and yet be absolutely humble and have the biggest sweetest heart in the industry.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span title=\"Edited\">The band continued: \u201cRic was so kind to us, and never faltered or changed a thing either professionally or personally in the three different decades we worked with him. When you were his friend, it was for life, and he was always as generous as could be with his time and care.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span title=\"Edited\">Weezer noted that Ocasek was \u201cthe only producer to have worked with all seven current and past Weezer members, and all seven love and loved working with him and hanging out with him. There is a massive hole in Weezer\u2019s heart now. We will miss him forever, and will forever cherish the precious times we got to work and hang out with him.
