I found him still asleep when bringing him his Sunday morning coffee. I touched his cheek to rouse him. It was then I realized that during the night he had peacefully passed on.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/B2e2menBD4r\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"12\" readability=\"-6.9052631578947\"><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Ocaseks added that they \u201cappreciate the great outpouring of love\u201d they\u2019ve received following the singer-songwriter\u2019s death on Sunday in his New York apartment. \u201cWe, his family and friends, are completely and utterly devastated by his untimely and unexpected death and would appreciate the privacy to mourn in private.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ocasek\u2019s sons also shared a charming illustration their father did before his death, noting that Ocasek was \u201ca prolific doodler.\u201d The drawing features an abstract figure as well as several phrases that have an added poignancy in the wake of Ocasek\u2019s death: \u201cNever forget that look,\u201d \u201cKeep on laughin\u2019\u201d and \u201cIt is what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the caption, Ocasek\u2019s sons wrote:&nbsp;\u201cHis passing was sudden, unexpected and beyond heartbreaking. Yesterday, we found this last doodle on his armchair. He couldn\u2019t have known what it would end up meaning to us. We love him so much.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/B2e4RSBhNX6\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"12\" readability=\"-3.0145348837209\"><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Police officers responded to a 911 call at Ocasek\u2019s Manhattan home at approximately 3 p.m. ET on Sunday and found the New Wave icon unconscious and unresponsive. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, though a cause of death has yet to be revealed. He was 75.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Following his death, many of Ocasek\u2019s friends, collaborators and admirers expressed their reverence for his songwriting and personal charm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cFeeling grateful for Ric,\u201d the Killers\u2019 Brandon Flowers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/brandon-flowers-tribute-ric-ocasek-884905\/\">tweeted<\/a>. \u201cHad the opportunity to send him this email a couple years back. My first king. Thank you, thank you, thank you.\u201d Smashing Pumpkins\u2019 Billy Corgan, who co-produced Ocasek\u2019s 1997 solo LP, <em>Troublizing<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/billy-corgan-tribute-ric-ocasek-884959\/\">wrote that he was \u201cdevastated\u201d<\/a> to hear the news. \u201cIt has brightened my spirit to see how many have posted about Ric, praising his originality, flair, and brilliance,\u201d he said on Instagram. \u201cI was blessed to have known him, through friendship and work.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Weezer \u2014 who worked with Ocasek on three of their records, including their 1994 self-titled debut, \u201cThe Blue Album\u201d \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/weezer-ric-ocasek-tribute-884922\/\">wrote<\/a>, \u201c[He] taught all of us so much about music, recording and songcraft.
