Radiohead<\/a> guitarist and acclaimed film composer Jonny Greenwood<\/a> unveiled his new contemporary classical label, Octatonic Records, Tuesday.<\/p>\n

In an announcement on the label\u2019s site<\/a>, Greenwood wrote, \u201cSince doing my first soundtrack [2003\u2019s Bodysong<\/em>], I\u2019ve become friends with lots of these remarkable musicians, as well as more familiar with the music they play. It\u2019s a whole world out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Greenwood will only record soloists or small groups of musicians for Octatonic. \u201cAnd as it\u2019s my party, including in the releases some of my own small ideas that have never been recorded, like 88<\/em> (for solo piano), and Miniatures from Water<\/em> for piano, violin, string drone and tanpura.\u201d<\/p>\n

Already released on the label<\/a> is Bach\u2019s Volume: 1: Partita No.2 in D Minor<\/em> on vinyl and digital, as well as Volume 2: Industry, Water, which consists of Greenwood\u2019s \u201cThree Miniatures From Water\u201d on one side and composer Michael Gordon\u2019s \u201cIndustry\u201d on the other.<\/p>\n

\u201cI stand in awe of classically trained UK musicians: a 20-something carrying a cello case will always be more impressive than someone with a guitar,\u201d Greenwood wrote. \u201cIt\u2019s just harder to do. It takes more commitment, and the sounds they make are so limitless \u2014 for all that the instruments they play are \u2018traditional.’\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cI hope these recordings encourage more people to see live classical music, and to take an interest in the featured artists. And, whilst a recording can only ever be an approximation of the real thing, I\u2019m going to work hard to produce recordings that encourage you to see this music as something vital and passionate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this summer, Radiohead released Minidiscs [Hacked]<\/em><\/a>, which consists of 18 hours of material from OK Computer<\/em> that had leaked on Bandcamp. Their last LP was 2016\u2019s A Moon Shaped Pool<\/em><\/a>, which they toured extensively for over two years and concluded at Philadelphia\u2019s Wells Fargo Center on August 1st, 2018.<\/p>\n
