Katy Perry<\/a> appeared on Ellen<\/em> on Wednesday to perform her latest single \u201cSmall Talk\u201d and to discuss making amends with Taylor Swift<\/a>, her former rival in an infamous feud over some backup dancers. The two pop stars publicly buried the hatchet<\/a> this past summer in Swift\u2019s music video for \u201cYou Need to Calm Down.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have such big groups of people who like to follow us,\u201d explained Perry, referring to the passionate armies of fans known as \u201cstans\u201d each devoted to her and Swift, \u201cand so they kinda started turning against each other a little bit, too, and it was really unfortunate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Perry continued, \u201cI\u2019m all about redemption and forgiveness and for setting an example for those younger people, that it can be cool to ask for forgiveness, and confront someone that you may have an issue with or a problem with and talk it out.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Swift was on her Reputation Tour, Perry sent her a little olive branch and, she says, would come up and say hi to Swift whenever she saw her in public. The pair later shared cookies they had baked together on Instagram and decided that, since \u201c10 people in the world have as much in common as we do,\u201d that they should be friends.<\/p>\n

Perry released the music video<\/a> for \u201cSmall Talk\u201d in August. She\u2019s set to perform<\/a> at the David Lynch Foundation\u2019s Silence the Violence benefit concert at the Anthem in Washington, D.C., on October 11th, along with Norah Jones, Mavis Staples and the Celebration Gospel Choir. The proceeds from the event will go towards Transcendental Meditation programs at schools, veteran service organizations, women\u2019s centers, recovery programs, correctional institutions and homeless shelters in partnership with THEARC (Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus).<\/p>\n

Perry also performed \u201cSmall Talk\u201d to the first time on television during the episode:<\/p>\n
