In most cases, they are just trying to stop me from thinking clearly.\u201d (page 228)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201c\u2018We need to create fear!\u2019 That\u2019s what Al Gore said to me at the start of our first conversation about how to teach climate change. It was 2009.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI had a profound respect at that time for Al Gore\u2019s achievements in explaining and acting on climate change, and still do. \u2026 But I couldn\u2019t agree to what he had asked. \u2026 I don\u2019t like fear.\u201d (page 229)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cFear plus urgency make for stupid, drastic decisions with unpredictable side effects. Climate change is too important for that. It needs systematic analysis, thought-through decisions, incremental actions, and careful evaluation.\u201d (page 230)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cTo be absolutely clear, I am deeply concerned about climate change because I am convinced it is real \u2014 as real as Ebola was in 2014.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cSo, what is the solution? Well, it\u2019s easy. Anyone emitting lots of greenhouse gas must stop doing that as soon as possible. We know who that is: the people on Level 4 (income level 4) who have by far the highest levels of CO2 emissions, so let\u2019s get on with it.
