Ironically, the first hotel Henny worked at was called Griswold\u2019s Inn in Claremont, California.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">In his 34-year career in the hotel industry, Henny has encountered quite a few characters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Once, while working as bell captain at the Hilton in Ontario, California, Henny had to inform a lady checking in with a dog that pets, unfortunately, were not allowed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cHotels were not pet-friendly back then,\u201d Henny said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">However, upon politely informing the woman of the Hilton Hotel\u2019s no pets policy at the time, Henny was met with a not so friendly response.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201c\u2018Don\u2019t you know who my sister is?\u2019\u201d retorted the woman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Her sister was Zsa Zsa Gabor, who in addition to being a famous actress was once married to the founder of Hilton Hotels, Conrad Hilton.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI said, \u2018Well, very nice to meet you Mrs. Hilton. But, your dog still has to stay outside,\u2019\u201d Henny said of his response. \u201cShe wasn\u2019t too pleased.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Today, the 50-year-old Henny works as Hotel Colorado\u2019s general manager with his 100-pound shepherd Kylo at his side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">A little over 2, Kylo has been with Henny every step of the way since he became the historic hotel\u2019s general manager in October 2017.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cHe\u2019s kind of the hotel\u2019s unofficial mascot,\u201d Henny said. \u201cHe\u2019s my partner in crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">For Henny, life as a hotel general manager involves workweeks that oftentime last north of 50 hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cControlled chaos,\u201d Henny laughed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cYou can have your schedule mapped out \u2026 and then something happens,\u201d Henny said. \u201cIt\u2019s a 126-year-old building, things happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Recently, Henny and his team of roughly 90 employees hosted a $125,000 VIP party to display Hotel Colorado\u2019s newly renovated ballrooms and meeting space to 550 guests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">From the ballrooms\u2019 presentations to the hors d\u2019oeuvres served, the evening of Aug. 22 was a pivotal point in Hotel Colorado\u2019s history and Henny\u2019s career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cThat\u2019s either homerun, ball\u2019s out of the park and I\u2019ve secured my seat. Or, it\u2019s better brush up my resume,\u201d Henny said. \u201cI was very proud of my team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Safe to say, Henny secured his seat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">In addition to serving as Hotel Colorado\u2019s general manager, Henny also sits on the city\u2019s Downtown Development Authority, Financial Advisory Board as well as the Glenwood Springs Chamber and Resort association board of directors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI think that my give-back-to-the-community sense of purpose is from my mother,\u201d Henny said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Henny\u2019s mother, Pat Henny, volunteered and ran two chambers of commerce while his father, Carl Henny worked as an engineer on the Saturn V Rocket as part of the Apollo Space Program.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Married for 52 years, Henny\u2019s parents still live in the same house he grew up in as a child in California.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cMy dad instilled hard work and perseverance,\u201d Henny said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">While Henny has worked in hotels across the country, he hopes to finish his career in Glenwood Springs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI\u2019d love to meet the right lady.
