The project is under review by Pitkin County.<\/strong><br \/><em>Anna Stonehouse\/The Aspen Times<\/em><\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Aspen Skiing Co.\u2019s application to expand the ski area on Aspen Mountain won\u2019t be addressed again by Pitkin County commissioners until January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Skico officials <a id=\"N0x236ca20N0x22e2810:N0x236ca20N0x2224bb8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/local\/pitkin-county-commissioners-approve-skicos-10-year-project\/\">decided last month<\/a> to sever the application for the Pandora\u2019s expansion area from the general Aspen Mountain Master Plan, which were being simultaneously addressed by commissioners, after board members disagreed on how to move forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Commissioners Steve Child and Kelly McNicholas Kury voted against rezoning the property on the upper east side of Aspen Mountain so it can be used for skiing. Commissioners George Newman and Greg Poschman voted for rezoning. The fifth member of the board, Commissioner Patti Clapper, has recused herself from discussion about Aspen Mountain because she has family members who work for Skico.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Child said he was worried the rezoning undermines the <a id=\"N0x236ca20N0x22e2870:N0x236ca20N0x2224d68\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/rural-and-remote-the-zoning-that-saved-the-back-of-aspen-mountain-from-monster-homes-turns-25\/\">county\u2019s restrictive Rural and Remote zoning designation<\/a> \u2014 which must be overturned for a majority of the acreage Skico wants to develop. McNicholas Kury said she\u2019d like the Pandora\u2019s application to be assessed under the East of Aspen\/Independence Pass Master Plan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">In asking for a three-month extension to bring back the Pandora\u2019s application, Skico Vice President David Corbin said the added time will allow the company to assess its direction and consult with the county.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The Pandora\u2019s proposal has brought out strong opinions from community members on both sides the project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Commissioners approved the new Aspen Mountain Master Plan in early September.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/county-board-to-address-pandora-in-janaury\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: The Aspen Times<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Forest Service approved Aspen Skiing Co.s proposal to develop the Pandora&#8217;s lift and terrain.
