{"id":2450383,"date":"2019-10-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-10-26T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/?p=315060"},"modified":"2019-10-26T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-10-26T06:00:00","slug":"uncooperative-allegedly-drunk-motorist-closes-aspen-area-road-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/local-news\/uncooperative-allegedly-drunk-motorist-closes-aspen-area-road-friday\/","title":{"rendered":"Uncooperative, allegedly drunk motorist closes Aspen-area road Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/02\/facebook-thumbnail-1200.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Pitkin County sheriff\u2019s deputies closed a county road for more than an hour Friday afternoon while negotiating with a Denver man pulled over on Highway 82 for speeding who refused to cooperate with them, an official said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Richard Carpenter, 56, of Denver, eventually surrendered peacefully and was arrested and charged with drunken driving and violating a protection order, said Alex Burchetta, chief deputy of operations for the Pitkin County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Carpenter was pulled over in the area of Wildcat Way about 2:30 p.m. by a deputy who clocked him driving 83 mph in a 55 mph zone, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The Sheriff\u2019s Office sent out a \u201cPitkin Alert\u201d at 2:46 p.m. notifying community members that Wildcat Way would be closed for the foreseeable future while deputies dealt with the situation.
