That is the same rate as last year. The mill levy required approval because Basalt discovered last fall that it had inadvertently violated the Colorado Taxpayers\u2019 Bill of Rights. Without voter approval of the proposed rate, Basalt must return to a mill levy of 2,562. The difference to the budget is about $700,000 annually. The question also sought flexibility to let the Town Council adjust the property tax rate annually \u2014 as long as it didn\u2019t exceed 5.957 mills.<strong>Yes\/For:<\/strong> 437 <strong>No\/Against:<\/strong> 280<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Preliminary results from Pitkin and Eagle counties<br \/>\ntonight show a property tax proposal for the town of Basalt building a cushion<br \/>\nin the early going.<\/p>\n<p>In results released shortly after 7 p.m., the proposal<br \/>\nto set a property tax rate at 5.957 mills was favored by 369 and opposed by 237<br \/>\nin Eagle County.<\/p>\n<p>In Pitkin County, the preliminary voting was 68 in<br \/>\nfavor and 43 against.<\/p>\n<p>Basalt is divided between Eagle and Pitkin counties,<br \/>\nso the results have to be combined for the municipal ballot question.<\/p>\n<p>The combined, preliminary vote shows the vote at 437<br \/>\nfor and 280 against.
