{"id":2451213,"date":"2019-11-17T20:56:00","date_gmt":"2019-11-18T03:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/rfta-glenwood-set-to-launch-grand-avenue-alternatives-analysis\/"},"modified":"2019-11-17T20:56:00","modified_gmt":"2019-11-18T03:56:00","slug":"rfta-glenwood-set-to-launch-grand-avenue-alternatives-analysis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/local-news\/rfta-glenwood-set-to-launch-grand-avenue-alternatives-analysis\/","title":{"rendered":"RFTA, Glenwood set to launch Grand Avenue Alternatives Analysis"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image p402_hide\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"693\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/11\/study-gpi-111619-1024x693.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/11\/study-gpi-111619-1024x693.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/11\/study-gpi-111619-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/11\/study-gpi-111619-768x520.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"><figcaption><strong>A bus rider boards the local Glenwood RFTA bus in downtown Glenwood.<\/strong><br \/><em>Chelsea Self \/ Post Independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Glenwood Springs and the Roaring Fork Transit Authority are putting more than $600,000 toward identifying and implementing traffic solutions on Grand Avenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The city of Glenwood Springs will spend approximately $319,000 and RFTA about $290,000 on the Grand Avenue Alternatives Analysis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">RFTA board member and Glenwood Springs mayor Jonathan Godes said the analysis would look at ways in which to reduce commuter traffic, provide extended Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service to the downtown as well as add parking.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cOne of the bigger things we can do is try to get more people in western Garfield County that are commuting through Glenwood onto mass transit,\u201d Godes said. \u201cWe can have 57 people on a bus instead of 57 individual cars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Currently, RFTA has BRT stops at 27th Street in Glenwood Springs and at the West Glenwood Park and Ride.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">RFTA officials say the analysis will identify possible locations for a BRT facility downtown similar to that of Rubey Park Transit Center in Aspen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cWe could have a facility where transfers could be occurring between Ride Glenwood, RFTA BRT and the Hogback service that goes out to New Castle and Rifle,\u201d said Kurt Ravenschlag, RFTA chief operating officer. \u201cBut, it all is kind of premised on what are our alignment (options) for extending BRT to the downtown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The analysis will look at alignment options other than just Grand Avenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cWe\u2019ll certainly be evaluating all alternatives of potential parallel alignments,\u201d Ravenschlag said. \u201cThere are some that will probably be easily ruled out just because they are not appropriate for operating this type of service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The Moving Forward Together U.S. EPA Brownfields\u2019 area-wide plan adopted by the Glenwood Springs City Council in February identified one possible location for a parking structure at Colorado Avenue and Seventh Street in downtown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">In that schematic, the 592-space parking structure spanned over Colorado Avenue. Additionally, the transit center resided along Colorado Avenue near Seventh Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cIt would have been a massive structure and I don\u2019t think anybody actually liked that,\u201d Godes said of the hypothetical parking structure over Colorado Avenue contemplated in the area-wide plan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">However, Godes stressed the need for mass transit in downtown Glenwood Springs, particularly with the number of downtown employees already competing for parking.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The city developed the area-wide plan to help inform and integrate the confluence\u2019s redevelopment, the Sixth Street corridor master plan, Seventh Street and Two Rivers Park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">According to Ravenschlag, the Grand Avenue Alternatives Analysis\u2019 consultant team will include a host of subcontractors with various expertise in traffic, parking and transit analysis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Ravenschlag added that the project management team lives in Glenwood Springs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The entire analysis carries a price tag of $609,783.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/rfta-glenwood-set-to-launch-grand-avenue-alternatives-analysis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: The Aspen Times<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A bus rider boards the local Glenwood RFTA bus in downtown Glenwood.Chelsea Self \/ Post Independent Glenwood Springs and the Roaring Fork Transit Authority are putting more than $600,000 toward identifying and implementing traffic solutions on Grand Avenue.
