{"id":2451654,"date":"2019-11-27T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-11-28T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/?p=316805"},"modified":"2019-11-27T23:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-11-28T06:00:00","slug":"cottonwood-pass-blm-routes-closing-for-the-winter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/local-news\/cottonwood-pass-blm-routes-closing-for-the-winter\/","title":{"rendered":"Cottonwood Pass, BLM routes closing for the winter"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/02\/facebook-thumbnail-1200.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Cottonwood Pass is closed for the winter, Eagle County Road and Bridge Department said in a notice Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Eagle County closed the road from mile marker 2.5 in Gypsum to mile marker 12.5.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cThe road will reopen in April 2020 or when conditions allow,\u201d the notice said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The dirt and gravel route provides access between Missouri Heights and Gypsum when passable. Whenever Interstate 70 is closed in Glenwood Canyon, some navigation systems erroneously send motorists over Cottonwood Pass and then forces them to backtrack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Elsewhere in the Roaring Fork Valley, the Bureau of Land Management announced numerous routes and properties will close for the winter starting Sunday to protect critical big-game winter range and prevent road damage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Most roads in the seasonally closed areas are gated. The BLM has been installing more gates in the high-use Crown area as it implements a 2015 Travel Management Plan. The Prince Creek campgrounds in Pitkin County will also close.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">For the first time this year, the closures include the 557-acre Sutey Ranch parcel in Garfield County. The recently acquired property is closed to all human entry and uses between Dec. 1 and April 15.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The following areas are closed to motorized and mechanized vehicles from Dec. 1 to April 15:<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Basalt Mountain (south portion)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 The Crown, except the mountain bike trails paralleling Prince Creek Road (southeast of Carbondale)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Thompson Creek\/Holgate Mesa (southwest of Carbondale)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Fisher Creek-Cattle Creek (north of Carbondale)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Light Hill (south of Basalt)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Williams Hill (southeast of Basalt)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 North side of the Red Hill SRMA (north of Carbondale)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Gate at Sutey Ranch parking area<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Boiler-East Elk Creek (north of New Castle )<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Dry Rifle Creek (east of Rifle Gap Reservoir)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 East Eagle-Bellyache Ridge except Red Neck Ridge and Boneyard mountain bike trails paralleling County Road 21 (east of Eagle)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Flatiron Mesa (south of Rifle)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Red Canyon-Hells Pocket-Bocco Mountain (north of I-70 and south of Castle Peak)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 West Rifle Creek (west of Rifle Gap Reservoir)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/local\/cottonwood-pass-blm-routes-closing-for-the-winter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: The Aspen Times<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cottonwood Pass is closed for the winter, Eagle County Road and Bridge Department said in a notice Wednesday.
