The avalanche ran around 425 vertical feet.<\/strong><br \/><em>Colorado Avalanche Information Center\/Courtesy Photo<\/em><\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The Larimer County Coroner\u2019s Office identified the skier who was killed in a backcountry avalanche on Sunday as Michelle Lindsay, a 29-year-old from Fort Collins.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday afternoon, an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/news\/backcountry-skier-dies-in-avalanche-near-rocky-mountain-national-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">avalanche on Diamond Peak buried and killed<\/a>&nbsp;Lindsay, marking the first avalanche death of the season in Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>Though Lindsay was dug out of the avalanche by other members of her group, she wasn\u2019t breathing and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Larimer County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, the avalanche was 2-3 feet deep, between 285 and 375 feet wide and 425 feet vertically.<\/p>\n<p>The Larimer County Coroner\u2019s Office determined that Lindsay suffocated while trapped underneath the snow.<\/p>\n<p>Avalanche danger in the Front Range region, which includes Rocky Mountain National Park, is rated as considerable by the CAIC.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/michelle-lindsay-identified-by-coroner-as-skier-killed-in-backcountry-avalanche\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: The Aspen Times<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Looking up the slide path from the toe of the avalanche.
