Who are the people who stand outside all day making sure the lifts are running and where do they come from? In this new wintertime series, each week we will be introducing you to a liftie that works on one of Aspen Skiing Co.\u2019s four mountains.<\/p>\n

Name:<\/strong> Tara Toy<\/span><\/p>\n

Hometown:<\/strong> Alameda, California<\/p>\n

Lift location:<\/strong> Silver Queen Gondola, Aspen Mountain<\/p>\n

How long have you been in Aspen?<\/strong> About three weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n

What brought you to Aspen?<\/strong> I\u2019ve never really gone outside of California, so I decided I\u2019d go somewhere for a bit, but long enough to settle down and have a community.<\/p>\n

How did you pick Aspen?<\/strong> I applied to jobs in a bunch of different states and Aspen just kind of seemed like the best fit for me.<\/span><\/p>\n

What has surprised you about Aspen so far?<\/strong> I love the small-town feeling. I think that\u2019s just what\u2019s surprised me the most and has been the most pleasant, because I\u2019ve already seen plenty of faces from just being here for a couple weeks. I really, really like that.<\/span><\/p>\n

How do you stay warm working outside?<\/strong> How do I stay warm? I don\u2019t. Well, the thing is I was Californa-coast born, raised and maintained, so that\u2019s also why I came here. I\u2019m not good at the cold so if I put myself in this environment I will have to adapt; so layers, and gloves and handwarmers.<\/p>\n

Will the gondola always be your assigned lift?<\/strong> I actually don\u2019t know how to ski or snowboard so I\u2019m here to learn \u2014 that\u2019s also what brought me here is I want to learn \u2014 so for now I\u2019m going to be at the gondola and then hopefully I\u2019ll learn how to get down the mountain without downloading and then I\u2019ll be at other spots on the mountain.<\/span><\/p>\n
