While no cause of death was given, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/thesource.com\/2019\/12\/16\/wu-tang-clan-advisor-og-popa-wu-passes-away-at-age-63\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><i>The Source<\/i><\/a>, Popa Wu \u2014 who was also known as Freedum Allah \u2014 died at his home in Brooklyn. He was 63.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Popa Wu was the older cousin of Wu-Tang Clan\u2019s RZA and also related to GZA and Ol\u2019 Dirty Bastard. He played a crucial role in the group\u2019s formation and would go on to serve as a spiritual advisor of sorts, preaching the philosophy of the Five Percent Nation on songs by the Wu-Tang Clan and its members.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FsK2TjAAe8k?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">News of Popa Wu\u2019s death broke Monday as tributes from various members of the Wu-Tang Clan began to appear on social media. \u201cCan\u2019t believe you\u2019re gone!\u201d wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/B6JIW5WnFjN\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Raekwon<\/a>, while Method Man <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/methodmanofficial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">shared<\/a> a picture of himself and Popa Wu with the caption, \u201cNo words!\u201d Ghostface Killah also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/B6JEI7Og3Nm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">posted a photo<\/a> of himself with Popa Wu and wrote, \u201cRest in paradise my brother. Forever. Tell Dirt we love and miss him.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/B6Izp6Hl22W\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"12\" readability=\"-11.958333333333\"><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">In a testament to Popa Wu\u2019s influence on the Wu-Tang Clan and hip-hop as a whole, others outside the outfit\u2019s orbit chimed in with tributes as well. \u201cR.I.P. eternally to the God Popa Wu\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/REALDJPREMIER\/status\/1206626755953516546\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">wrote<\/a> DJ Premier, while Pete Rock <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PeteRock\/status\/1206614336220880896\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">tweeted<\/a>, \u201cDamn say it ain\u2019t so man. Wow. The angels got you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Some of Popa Wu\u2019s most famous credits include \u201cWu-Revolution,\u201d the first track on 1997\u2019s <i>Wu-Tang Forever<\/i>, Ghostface Killah\u2019s \u201cBlack Jesus\u201d and Raekwon\u2019s \u201cNorth Star.\u201d Popa Wu helmed two releases of his own as well, the 2000 compilation <i>Visions of the 10th Chamber<\/i>, and its 2008 follow-up, <i>Visions of the 10th Chamber Part II<\/i>.
