Olympic and World Cup champion Mikaela Shiffrin broke the news Monday morning that her father, Jeff Shiffrin, has died.<\/p>\n

The Vail skier sent out a series of tweets Monday about Jeff\u2019s death. He was 65.<\/p>\n

No further details were available. Jeff Shiffrin was a successful anesthesiologist and a former ski racer.<\/p>\n

In a string of tweets posted to Twitter, Shiffrin wrote:<\/p>\n

\u201cMy family is heartbroken beyond comprehension about the unexpected passing of my kindhearted, loving, caring, patient, wonderful father. Our mountains, our ocean, our sunrise, our heart, our soul, our everything. He taught us so many valuable lessons \u2026 but above everything else, he taught us the golden rule: be nice, think first. This is something I will carry with me forever. He was the firm foundation of our family and we miss him terribly \u2026 Thank you, from the depths of my heart, for respecting my family\u2019s privacy as we grieve during this unimaginable and devastating time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shiffrin sent out a tweet in the early morning hours Monday that read simply: \u201cGo tell everyone you love that you love them and how much you love them, do it right now. Please.\u201d<\/p>\n

The U.S Ski and Snowboard federation said Shiffrin travelled home from Europe to Colorado on Sunday to be with her father and family at a hospital, where he died, according to The Associated Press.<\/p>\n

Jeff Shiffrin often attended his daughter\u2019s races on the World Cup circuit and at major championships with his wife, Eileen.<\/p>\n
