{"id":2454245,"date":"2020-02-06T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-02-07T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/?p=320475"},"modified":"2020-02-06T23:00:00","modified_gmt":"2020-02-07T06:00:00","slug":"second-phase-of-planning-for-new-affordable-housing-in-aspen-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/local-news\/second-phase-of-planning-for-new-affordable-housing-in-aspen-underway\/","title":{"rendered":"Second phase of planning for new affordable housing in Aspen underway"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image p402_hide\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"535\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/08\/AT_AT200610108090040AR.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/08\/AT_AT200610108090040AR.jpg 800w, https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/08\/AT_AT200610108090040AR-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/08\/AT_AT200610108090040AR-325x217.jpg 325w, https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/08\/AT_AT200610108090040AR-768x514.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/08\/AT_AT200610108090040AR-620x415.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The city of Aspen is moving forward with the second phase of planning to build another 79 affordable housing units at Burlingame Ranch, a municipal government-developed residential subdivision across from Buttermilk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Aspen City Council last week approved an $866,000 contract with Denver-based 359 Design for phase two of its work on the multi-million-dollar project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cThis large chunk of work takes us through design development and construction documents,\u201d Chris Everson, the city\u2019s affordable housing project manager, told council last week. \u201cIt\u2019s 14 months of the heavy lifting portion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">359 Design will take the city through state and local approvals, and have significant input on what modular manufacturer will be used for construction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The city signed with 359 Design Team <a id=\"N0x2b5b2f0N0x2b33ff0:N0x2b5b2f0N0x2b9d910\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/local\/aspens-electeds-sign-off-on-1-5m-in-contracts-to-build-affordable-housing\/\">last June,<\/a> with the first part of the contract consisting of $252,000 to conduct <a id=\"N0x2b5b2f0N0x2b34050:N0x2b5b2f0N0x2b9d9a0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/city-of-aspen-to-host-meetings-on-affordable-housing-plans\/\">community outreach<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The team held several open houses last year and reached out to hundreds of locals about what they want to see for the third phase of Burlingame.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The development, which began in the mid-2000s, already has 177 units, which are occupied mostly by working families.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">359 Design has incorporated last year\u2019s public feedback into the schematic design for the project, which was completed at the end of 2019, according to Everson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Staff has separately posted a request for proposals for an owner\u2019s agent who will serve as a construction manager adviser for the project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Proposals are due this month and a future request to hire a firm will come to Council in March, according to Everson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">He said the project team will be ready to begin construction next year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI\u2019m excited about this,\u201d said Councilman Ward Hauenstein, adding that he wants to tour the modular manufacturing facilities with the team. \u201cI think that construction method is the best way to go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText Tagline\"><a href=\"mailto:csackariason@aspentimes.com\">csackariason@aspentimes.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/local\/second-phase-of-planning-for-new-affordable-housing-in-aspen-underway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: The Aspen Times<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The city of Aspen is moving forward with the second phase of planning to build another 79 affordable housing units at Burlingame Ranch, a municipal government-developed residential subdivision across from Buttermilk.
