However, that meeting was canceled due to inclement weather.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The city anticipates rescheduling the City Council meeting for Tuesday, but an official announcement had not been made by deadline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cIt is going to have a tremendous impact on commuters, homeowners, students at Sopris Elementary, teachers,\u201d Councilman Tony Hershey said. \u201cIt has to be done right, and there has to be mitigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The reconstruction project will begin immediately south of the Midland Avenue and 27th Street roundabout and will continue just past the Four Mile intersection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cIt\u2019s a little over a mile\u2019s worth of roadway,\u201d Partch said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">When the project\u2019s construction goes out to bid, Partch envisioned flexibility with respect to when the contractor must start, in an effort to get better bid prices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cThey can start as soon as we issue a notice to proceed, or they can have the flexibility to start as late as Nov. 1, 2020,\u201d Partch said. \u201cOnce they enter the site, they will be held to a number of days to complete the project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">According to Partch, South Midland\u2019s reconstruction has been classified as an 18-month project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The total estimated cost of the project amounts to $12.6 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The city has received over $8 million in grant funding to help offset that cost.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText Tagline\"><a href=\"mailto:mabennett@postindependent.com\">mabennett@postindependent.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/local\/round-two\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: The Aspen Times<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cars make their way down South Midland near the Four Mile Road turnoff on a snowy morning in Glenwood.Chelsea Self \/ Post Independent After replacing one of the worst-rated bridges in the state, the city will turn its attention to one of Glenwood Springs\u2019 bumpiest roadways \u2014 South Midland Avenue.
