The Longhorns improved to 3-14 overall, while the Rams fell to 3-12 with the season down to the final two weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Also Wednesday, the Roaring Fork girls won 54-39 over Basalt to improve to 10-5 overall, while BHS fell to 6-9 after its fifth straight loss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Both Basalt teams have two games remaining in the regular season, beginning with a final home game on Friday against Olathe and finishing with a trip to Aspen on Feb. 21.<\/p>\n<p>The Aspen High School basketball teams competed Tuesday at Cedaredge, both falling in league contests.<\/p>\n<p>The AHS boys lost 53-39 to the Bruins (4-12), having trailed 24-14 at halftime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDidn\u2019t emphasize energy enough,\u201d AHS coach Alex Schrempf wrote in a text. \u201cCedaredge came out for the senior night roaring and we couldn\u2019t respond down the stretch. Lot of unforced errors on our end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Skiers dropped to 10-7 overall after their third straight loss.<\/p>\n<p>The AHS girls lost 59-13 at Cedaredge (13-3) on Tuesday to fall to 3-12 overall.<\/p>\n<p>Both Aspen teams are next scheduled to play Friday at Coal Ridge and Saturday at Delta.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText Subhead\">Aspen freeski open returns to Buttermilk on Thursday<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspensnowmass.com\/while-you-are-here\/events\/aspen-snowmass-freeskiing-open\">Aspen Snowmass Freeskiing Open<\/a> returns to the X Games venue at Buttermilk beginning Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fis-ski.com\/DB\/general\/event-details.html?sectorcode=FS&amp;eventid=46488&amp;seasoncode=2020\">Nor-Am Cup event<\/a>, it features some of the nation\u2019s \u2014 if not world\u2019s \u2014 top rising talent who are trying to make the World Cup circuit. A handful of starters will likely have at least one World Cup start already.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Competition gets underway Thursday with the men\u2019s ski slopestyle qualifiers. Heat 1 is scheduled to start at 9:25 a.m., followed by Heat 2 at 11:35 a.m. and Heat 3 at 1:40 p.m. Both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s slopestyle finals are scheduled for Friday morning, with men\u2019s big air qualifiers slated for Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The men\u2019s and women\u2019s superpipe finals are Saturday; qualifiers and finals will be held on the same day. Men\u2019s and women\u2019s big air finals also are scheduled for Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Spectating is free from the base of Buttermilk Ski Area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText Subhead\">Aspen\u2019s Jarrell makes halfpipe final of Calgary World Cup<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Aspen\u2019s Cassidy Jarrell will compete in the final of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fis-ski.com\/DB\/general\/event-details.html?sectorcode=FS&amp;eventid=44937&amp;seasoncode=2020\">Calgary World Cup<\/a> after making it through Wednesday\u2019s qualifying round at Canada Olympic Park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Jarrell was fourth in his qualifying heat with a score of 84 and will be the third to drop in for Friday\u2019s 10-man final. The 20-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/aspens-cassidy-jarrell-enjoys-first-x-games-experience-despite-missing-finals\/\">made his X Games Aspen debut<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Two-time reigning Olympic gold medalist David Wise of Nevada was the top qualifier Wednesday, followed by Telluride\u2019s Gus Kenworthy and Boulder\u2019s Lyman Currier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Also making it through to finals are Winter Park\u2019s Birk Irving, Canada\u2019s Brendan MacKay, Avon\u2019s Taylor Seaton, Norway\u2019s Birk Ruud, Canada\u2019s Noah Bowman and Oregon\u2019s Hunter Hess.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The biggest name to miss the cut was world champion Aaron Blunck of Crested Butte, who had a best run of 79.80 in qualifying. Aspen\u2019s Tristan Feinberg was ninth in his heat and also missed the finals cut. Feinberg is expected to return to Aspen this weekend for the freeski open.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Aspen\u2019s Alex Ferreira, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/sports\/aspens-ferreira-repeats-as-x-games-ski-superpipe-champion-in-showdown-with-blunck\/\">fresh off his second straight X Games gold medal<\/a>, was originally slated to compete but did not start.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">China\u2019s Eileen Gu led the women\u2019s qualifying, followed by Canada\u2019s Rachael Karker and Russia\u2019s Valeriya Demidova. The American trio of Brita Sigourney, Devin Logan and Abigale Hansen were the final three to qualify for the eight-woman final.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The Calgary event is the final World Cup for halfpipe skiers this season.
