Make solar panels a \u201cgift to the community.\u201d And add a big battery also to make the panels more effective. And while you are at it, do a major efficiency program on the rest of the buildings and replace gas furnaces with heat pumps. Take a good look at his work and you can see he was all about efficiency. And, especially, honesty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">But the new building was just approved. Never mind it doesn\u2019t provide housing for its employees on site. Never mind that the neighborhood is \u201calready overrun by the music school and Institute activities.\u201d Never mind there will be \u201c13 cars additional cars a day.\u201d Never mind the building will not have parking spaces.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">A former Aspen mayor (and former vice president at the Institute) captured the situation: \u201cIt is growth, there is no way around that. But this feels like the right kind of growth.\u201d I built in Aspen for many years. I don\u2019t remember seeing \u201cthe right kind\u201d in any of the codes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The building \u201cwill receive an expedited building permit \u2026 and waivers on \u2026 fees\u201d because it is an \u201cessential public facility.\u201d Essential for whom?<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The past is fine to know. Honoring someone long past doesn\u2019t help them now.
