Nicole Atkins<\/a> was forced to cancel a tour supporting her new album Italian Ice<\/em>, but she is continuing to play live \u2013 from the safety of her Nashville home.<\/p>\n

Atkins is the latest artist to take part in \u201cIn My Room<\/a>,\u201d our new IGTV series in which artists perform in intimate places in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Atkins\u2019 performance follows John Fogerty<\/a>, Brian Wilson,<\/a> and Angelique Kidjo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to keep everybody entertained, keep our spirits up,\u201d Atkins says. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of things we can do at this time that we don\u2019t normally get to do, like this. Here we go!\u201d<\/p>\n

Atkins performed \u201cDomino<\/a>,\u201d a disco track inspired by Prince and the Rolling Stones\u2019 \u201cMiss You.\u201d Though written before our current crisis, the apocalyptic lyrics fit the moment perfectly: \u201cI\u2019m not gonna play safe and sound,\u201d Atkins sings, \u201cWhen the world comes tumblin\u2019, tumblin\u2019 down.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Next, Atkins performed an unplugged electric version of another new song \u201cCaptain,\u201d about helping someone who needs it in a difficult time, and 2016\u2019s \u201cA Little Crazy,\u201d inspired by Chris Isaak.<\/p>\n

Italian Ice<\/i> was recorded in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and inspired by the crumbling charm of her Asbury Park, New Jersey stomping grounds. \u201cWhen you\u2019re on the boardwalk there\u2019s a feeling that anything can happen,\u201d she\u2019s said. \u201cI wanted to give people something they can put on and buy into a fantasy that gets them excited about what might happen in their own lives.\u201d She worked with producer Ben Tanner and friends that include Dap-Kings\u2019 guitarist Binky Griptite, and drummer Jim Sclavunos and keyboardist Dave Sherman of Nick Cave\u2019s Bad Seeds. Two musical legends also play on the album: organist Spooner Oldham and bassist David Hood of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. Other guests include Britt Daniel, Seth Avett, and more.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope people are keeping their spirits up,\u201d Atkins says. \u201cThis is going to pass. Just keep yourself safe and entertained. Make some art, do some drawing, go on Fender.com and take free guitar lessons, or go through your grandmas old clothes and have a dress up party!\u201d<\/p>\n
