Local public health officials sent a letter Tuesday to two international short-term rental websites asking them to cancel upcoming reservations and stop accepting new ones.<\/p>\n

The request \u2014 to VRBO and Airbnb \u2014 was prompted by the appearance recently at Aspen Valley Hospital of people from out of town with \u201csymptoms,\u201d according to Alex Burchetta, one of the commanders of the team managing the Roaring Fork Valley\u2019s response to the outbreak.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not a place of refuge (now), as we are for most of the rest of the year,\u201d Burchetta said Tuesday. \u201cWe need to focus on our full-time residents.\u201d<\/p>\n

Burchetta said doctors at Aspen Valley Hospital told public health officials Monday that they\u2019ve had people who have presented to the hospital recently and indicated they were from out of town. The people \u2014 Burchetta was unsure how many or exactly when they showed up at AVH \u2014 \u201chad some symptoms\u201d though he was unsure if they were COVID-19-related<\/a>.<\/p>\n
