She went to some of the classes and was surprised at what she found.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cPeople think of BDSM as a dark and scary thing,\u201d she said. \u201cBut especially in a community setting, it\u2019s lighthearted and fun. It\u2019s like the environment of an improv class.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The idea of someone like Marcy in the suburbs finding a wholesome joy as a dominatrix is based in the reality that Kennelly found in this subculture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cIt\u2019s amazing seeing the kinds of people who are interested in it,\u201d she said. \u201cIt takes a lot of bravery to go into a workshop and say, \u2018Sure, I\u2019ll try dominating someone in front of a group of people.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Kennelly most recently produced \u201cThe Neighbors\u2019 Window,\u201d which won the Oscar for Best Live Action Short in February. Producing an Academy Award-winning short obviously opened a lot of doors for Kennelly, though her career \u2013 like all of the film world \u2013 is largely paused amid the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI had a great month-and-a-half where everybody was reaching out to me and saying, \u2018Let\u2019s talk about doing something,\u2019 mostly feature projects, which are all now on hold,\u201d she said. \u201cBut it\u2019s great.
