Jared Polis on April 3 <a id=\"N0x25d6d60N0x26d66f0:N0x25d6d60N0x24a16d0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/colorado-governor-asks-residents-to-wear-non-medical-masks-when-they-venture-out-of-house\/\">asked all Coloradans to begin wearing cloth-based, non-medical masks<\/a> when they leave their homes, Pitkin County Board of Health Chair Markey Butler said much of the volunteer board is in support of issuing a mask advisory at the county level, too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cEven though we\u2019ve seen a lot of compliance locally, this is just another line of protection,\u201d Butler said Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">She went on to say that the advisory is anticipated to be more of an education-driven initiative versus a formal public health order, recommending Pitkin County locals to wear face masks when visiting essential businesses, including grocery stores and post offices.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col\">\n<div class=\"row at-donation at-donation-mobile p-0\">\n<div class=\"col-xl-4 class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">She said county locals would not be asked to wear masks on area trails, so long as they maintain six feet a part from others and do not gather in groups of more than five people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">If issued Monday, the county\u2019s mask advisory would join Glenwood Spring\u2019s public health order requiring face coverings for essential activities outside of the home <a id=\"N0x25d6d60N0x26d6750:N0x25d6d60N0x24a19a0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/glenwood-springs-requires-residents-to-wear-face-coverings-for-essential-activities\/\">issued April 6<\/a> and the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority\u2019s face mask requirement for every person boarding a bus, <a id=\"N0x25d6d60N0x26d67b0:N0x25d6d60N0x24a1a30\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/local\/pitkin-county-public-health-department-obtains-1000-covid-19-antibody-tests-for-community-use-in-aspen-area\/\">which goes into effect Monday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention <a id=\"N0x25d6d60N0x26d6870:N0x25d6d60N0x24a1b50\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prevent-getting-sick\/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recommends wearing cloth face coverings<\/a><i class=\"fas fa-external-link-alt\"><\/i> in public settings \u201cwhere other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain\u201d as a way to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, namely by helping people who may have the virus and don\u2019t know it from transmitting it to others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">At the national, state and county level, people are encouraged to make cloth masks out of items they may have at home, like old T-shirts or scarves, and to wash them after every trip out of the house.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Butler, who is also the mayor of Snowmass Village, said town officials are looking at distributing buffs to village residents in need of a face covering this coming week, and that the city of Aspen is expected to pursue something similar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Do-it-yourself ideas for mask making are also available <a id=\"N0x25d6d60N0x26d6930:N0x25d6d60N0x24a1d90\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coloradomaskproject.com\/how-to-help\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">at the Colorado Mask Project website<\/a><i class=\"fas fa-external-link-alt\"><\/i>, and locals interested in joining the local mask making efforts spearheaded by a handful of Roaring Fork Valley sewers should email Claudia Cunningham at <a href=\"mailto:sixangels@comcast.net\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/threading-the-aspen-community-through-the-covid-19-crisis\/\">as previously reported.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The specifics of the expected Pitkin County mask advisory will be hashed out at the <a id=\"N0x25d6d60N0x26d69f0:N0x25d6d60N0x24a1ef8\" href=\"https:\/\/pitkincounty.com\/civicalerts.aspx?AID=339\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Board of Health\u2019s special meeting Monday<\/a><i class=\"fas fa-external-link-alt\"><\/i>, which will be open to the public <a id=\"N0x25d6d60N0x26d6a50:N0x25d6d60N0x24a1f88\" href=\"https:\/\/zoom.us\/j\/924887094?status=success\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to watch via Zoom at 3 p.m.<\/a><i class=\"fas fa-external-link-alt\"><\/i> There will not be an opportunity for public comment during the meeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The Board of Health will also convene during a regular meeting on Thursday, when it is expected to discuss construction during the COVID-19 crisis, the opening of area golf courses, and a strategy for the distribution of the county\u2019s 1,000 COVID-19 antibody tests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">As of Sunday afternoon, Bill Linn, spokesperson for the Pitkin County Incident Management team and assistant Aspen police chief, said there were no major updates from the IMT in regards to the COVID-19 response.
