He said he must stick to the deadline because if a plea agreement cannot be reached, other deadlines loom for proceedings ahead of a trial.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Von Stein\u2019s attorney, Michael Fox, responded that more time was necessary for negotiations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI don\u2019t know that we\u2019ll have an answer at that point,\u201d he said of April 28.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col\">\n<div class=\"row at-donation at-donation-mobile p-0\">\n<div class=\"col-xl-4 p-2\">\n<div data-bg=\"url(https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/AT-logo-white.png)\" class=\"p-0 mt-2 mb-2 h-75 text-center rocket-lazyload\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/AT-logo-white.png\" class=\"logo m-0 p-0 invisible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-bg=\"url(https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/at-banner-paypal.jpg)\" class=\"col-xl-8 p-3 text-center rocket-lazyload\">\n<h3 class=\"d-inline mr-3\">Support Local Journalism<\/h3>\n<p><button class=\"btn d-inline\" type=\"button\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/donate\/?utm_source=article&amp;utm_medium=website&amp;utm_campaign=donation&amp;utm_term=&amp;utm_content=mid-article\">Donate<\/a><\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Fox requested the next hearing be set for May.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Parsons responded, \u201cWe\u2019re not willing to keep the offer open that long.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Fox said other factors favored holding the hearing in May. He said von Stein has lost her employment in the Roaring Fork Valley due to the coronavirus crisis and he submitted a motion requesting that she be allowed to move to her parent\u2019s house in Ohio. He didn\u2019t say where she had been working. Perhaps by mid-May, the pandemic will have settled enough to allow von Stein to travel back to Colorado and appear in court in person, Fox said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Boyd granted the request to allow her to travel and reside out of state and he set her next hearing for May 12. However, he stressed that he cannot make the DA\u2019s office extend the deadline for plea negotiations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Von Stein, 26, was <a id=\"N0x1fc1250N0x212cd20:N0x1fc1250N0x21e5af8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/alleged-sexually-explicit-texts-key-evidence-in-case-involving-basalt-high-school-teacher\/\">arrested at her home<\/a> in Carbondale Sept. 4 for allegedly engaging in sex with a male student from Basalt High School when he was a minor. She was charged with three counts of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The case has been sealed, prohibiting scrutiny of documents filed in the case.
