Jared Polis said he sought the aid as a result of an April 14 freeze in Colorado\u2019s Western Slope region, The Daily Sentinel&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gjsentinel.com\/news\/western_colorado\/polis-to-request-disaster-declaration-following-peach-freeze\/article_0311b0e4-8675-11ea-a1ea-57d3cf0fa34f.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported&nbsp;<\/a><i class=\"fas fa-external-link-alt\"><\/i>Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Polis and state Commissioner of Agriculture Kate Greenberg said in a statement they requested a Secretarial Disaster Declaration from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>The emergency declaration enables farms to access assistance programs including loans with flexible repayment terms.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col\" readability=\"6\">\n<div class=\"row at-donation at-donation-mobile p-0\" readability=\"7\">\n<div class=\"col-xl-4 p-2\">\n<div data-bg=\"url(https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/AT-logo-white.png)\" class=\"p-0 mt-2 mb-2 h-75 text-center rocket-lazyload\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/AT-logo-white.png\" class=\"logo m-0 p-0 invisible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><h3 class=\"d-inline mr-3\">Support Local Journalism<\/h3>\n<p><button class=\"btn d-inline\" type=\"button\" onclick=\"handleDonationButtonClickMidArticle()\">Donate<\/button><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Peaches account for 75% of fruit production in the state, with the peach industry typically producing 17,000 tons of fruit with nearly $40 million in revenue, according to figures released by Polis.<\/p>\n<p>Bruce Talbott of Talbott Farms in Palisade said the freeze likely wiped out as much as 80% of normal production at the peach farm.<\/p>\n<p>Dennis Clark of Clark Family Orchards, another peach grower in Palisade, believes relief assistance would help some businesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sure all growers would look into it if there\u2019s something available,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div readability=\"11.301724137931\">\n<div class=\"col-xl-7 pt-3 pb-4 at-4 pl-4\" readability=\"19.162045060659\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/AT-logo-white.png\" class=\"logo\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Readers around Aspen and Snowmass Village make the Aspen Times\u2019 work possible.
