He had originally wanted to attempt the feat in the middle of March, but postponed his trip due to dangerous conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Then, right before his second attempt later that month, the new coronavirus hit the area hard and various stay-at-home orders were put in place and Sullivan decided it was proper to bail on that attempt as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">But, a month later, and everything seems to be lining up for a real attempt this week.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col\" readability=\"6\">\n<div class=\"row at-donation at-donation-mobile p-0\" readability=\"7\">\n<div class=\"col-xl-4 p-2\">\n<div data-bg=\"url(https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/AT-logo-white.png)\" class=\"p-0 mt-2 mb-2 h-75 text-center rocket-lazyload\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/AT-logo-white.png\" class=\"logo m-0 p-0 invisible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><h3 class=\"d-inline mr-3\">Support Local Journalism<\/h3>\n<p><button class=\"btn d-inline\" type=\"button\" onclick=\"handleDonationButtonClickMidArticle()\">Donate<\/button><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cConditions are primo. We spent three days over there and we\u2019ve been reconning and the trailheads, we can drive to them,\u201d Sullivan, 39, said Monday. \u201cThe quarantine \u2014 waiting on that paid off. It was soft, lots of snow, and now it\u2019s firm, spring, nice days. It\u2019s not going to be getting cold and freezing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The idea behind Nolan\u2019s 14 is to climb and in this case ski 14 of Colorado\u2019s 14,000-foot mountains in one go. The fourteeners are centered on the Sawatch Range, just over Independence Pass from Aspen, with a general area being from Salida up toward Leadville. It\u2019s considered a challenging test piece for endurance athletes, with few having completed it on foot during the summer months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Aspen\u2019s Ted Mahon is one of those few.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The only other people Sullivan knows to have done the route on skis are the duo of Rohan and Anna Lauer Roy, who skied them over 14 days in 2014. Sullivan has long hoped to complete his trip in 100 hours, although he says he should be able do it much faster than that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cThe conditions are perfect. I\u2019ve never seen this much snow, and perfect snow. Firm, fast snow. No post-holing,\u201d Sullivan said. \u201cWe are just going for it, and it\u2019s going to be amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Sullivan, a native of Kansas who long lived in Aspen, moved to Crested Butte earlier this month where he has started a new company that builds and customizes off-road RVs, as well as a new video production company called \u201cAdventure Anytime Anywhere.\u201d He\u2019s already started posting videos on his YouTube page \u2014 Sully Eric Sullivan \u2014 including a rather emotional post where he talks about his previous battles with alcohol and drug abuse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">He\u2019ll have a team with him during his Nolan\u2019s 14 attempt \u2014 which he plans to get underway by 8 a.m. Wednesday, if not sooner \u2014 that will update his various social media pages with status reports and video. He\u2019ll be wearing a live GPS tracker that is connected to his Facebook pages so people can follow his progress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Part of the reason Sullivan is doing this is to raise money for SEAL Future Foundation, which supports Navy SEALs after their service. The other is to simply feed his own competitive fire and finally conquer something he\u2019s long desired to add to his resume.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI\u2019ll never quit dreaming about it until I get it done,\u201d Sullivan said last month of Nolan\u2019s 14. \u201cA lot of people can run 100 milers and stuff like that, but to just finish this thing is a huge task and it\u2019s just medieval. There is no easy way around it.
