{"id":2457792,"date":"2020-04-28T22:56:00","date_gmt":"2020-04-29T04:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/acra-wants-to-ready-when-the-doors-open\/"},"modified":"2020-04-28T22:56:00","modified_gmt":"2020-04-29T04:56:00","slug":"acra-wants-to-be-ready-when-the-doors-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/local-news\/acra-wants-to-be-ready-when-the-doors-open\/","title":{"rendered":"ACRA wants to be ready when the doors open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Aspen Chamber Resort Association won\u2019t exactly be tooting its promotional horn for tourism this summer, but it wants to be ready to pitch visitors when public health orders and restrictions are scaled back. <\/p>\n<p>The organization \u2014 which is in the business of promoting local businesses \u2014 unveiled to its members Tuesday ideas for a tourism recovery plan that would launch when public health orders allow tourism to resume. That could be later in the summer or beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Typically during this time of the year \u2014 when the lifts are closed and business has settled down for the offseason \u2014 ACRA typically would be preparing for its biggest event of the summer, the Food &amp; Wine Classic in Aspen, and a host of other large draws that have been canceled including the Aspen Ideas Festival in late June and early July, and the JAS June Experience concert series. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe get it,\u201d ACRA President Debbie Braun said during the organization\u2019s board of directors meeting, which was held over the Zoom video-conference platform. \u201cUntil the public health order is lifted, we understand lodging probably won\u2019t be opening \u2026 and that public gatherings are a ways away. But if we don\u2019t start putting things into place right here and now, and getting some commitments, we won\u2019t be ready to reopen.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col\" readability=\"6\">\n<div class=\"row at-donation at-donation-mobile p-0\" readability=\"7\">\n<div class=\"col-xl-4 p-2\">\n<div data-bg=\"url(https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/AT-logo-white.png)\" class=\"p-0 mt-2 mb-2 h-75 text-center rocket-lazyload\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/AT-logo-white.png\" class=\"logo m-0 p-0 invisible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><h3 class=\"d-inline mr-3\">Support Local Journalism<\/h3>\n<p><button class=\"btn d-inline\" type=\"button\" onclick=\"handleDonationButtonClickMidArticle()\">Donate<\/button><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Pitkin County\u2019s stay-at-home order is in place through May 8, with modifications after that pending. Aspen also has made face coverings mandatory within city limits until at least May 27. Restrictions also limit gatherings to no more than five people unless in a household group. <\/p>\n<p>From a marketing standpoint, ACRA is eying a campaign intended to entice would-be visitors through \u201cthe healing power of nature,\u201d said marketing director Eliza Voss. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a heightened consciousness to all customers for what really matters,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd we feel that we have different ways to set us apart from our competition and we have that heightened sense of community. We think we are well positioned when people are ready to travel again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Voss said locals should be versed \u201con the role of tourism and the quality-of-life aspect we have here in Aspen so we are ready to welcome the visitors back and welcome them wholeheartedly, because they do contribute to the ecosystem of Aspen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ACRA\u2019s campaign would promote Aspen\u2019s vast outdoor surroundings and \u201cthe physical distancing possibilities in our wide open spaces,\u201d Voss said, adding that \u201cwe\u2019re hearing from many hotels. \u2026 They are not going to do hugely discounted room rates, so it\u2019s important to add value to that guest experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Braun said ACRA would discuss the campaign with the city and other leaders, while acknowledging a marketing promotion \u201cisn\u2019t (the city\u2019s) No. 1 priority right how.
