{"id":2458871,"date":"2020-05-27T00:32:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-27T06:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/theatre-aspen-announces-new-all-for-one-summer-lineup\/"},"modified":"2020-05-27T00:32:00","modified_gmt":"2020-05-27T06:32:00","slug":"theatre-aspen-announces-new-all-for-one-summer-lineup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/local-news\/theatre-aspen-announces-new-all-for-one-summer-lineup\/","title":{"rendered":"Theatre Aspen announces new \u201cAll for One\u201d summer lineup"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image p402_hide\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"613\" height=\"409\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/05\/theatreaspen-atd-040620.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/05\/theatreaspen-atd-040620.jpg 613w, https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/05\/theatreaspen-atd-040620-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 613px) 100vw, 613px\"><\/p><figcaption><strong>An image of the Hurst Theatre taken by Mike Lyons.<\/strong><br \/><em>Courtesy photo\/Theatre Aspen<\/em><\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Theatre Aspen announced another pivot to its 2020 summer season on Tuesday due to the continued public health and safety challenges of the novel coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">On April 6, the company <a id=\"N0x293a380N0x293de70:N0x293a380N0x297bdf0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/theatre-aspen-delays-start-to-summer-season-due-to-covid-19-crisis\/\">announced a delayed start to its 37th summer season<\/a> with some relatively minor tweaks and changes to its performance schedule.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">On Tuesday, Producing Director Jed Bernstein said now the summer schedule is set to have a whole new flavor, featuring audience favorites, new initiatives and a lot of solo performances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cThere aren\u2019t going to be as many performing arts options in town this year, so we wanted to create a schedule as enticing as possible that would appeal as broadly as possible,\u201d Bernstein said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s much more flexible for us to pivot if need be.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col\" readability=\"6\">\n<div class=\"row at-donation at-donation-mobile p-0\" readability=\"7\">\n<div class=\"col-xl-4 p-2\">\n<div data-bg=\"url(https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/AT-logo-white.png)\" class=\"p-0 mt-2 mb-2 h-75 text-center rocket-lazyload\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/AT-logo-white.png\" class=\"logo m-0 p-0 invisible\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><h3 class=\"d-inline mr-3\">Support Local Journalism<\/h3>\n<p><button class=\"btn d-inline\" type=\"button\" onclick=\"handleDonationButtonClickMidArticle()\">Donate<\/button><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">At the end of April, Bernstein said Theatre Aspen staff and board members realized that putting on full sized productions this July and August posed too many health and financial risks to take \u2014 and may not even be possible given future state and county public health orders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">But because Bernstein feels arts is an integral part of general recovery from COVID-19, he said Theatre Aspen moved to shift its schedule yet again instead of cancel altogether, working to feature a broader \u201ctasting menu\u201d more Roaring Fork Valley locals can enjoy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cAspen is such a unique community, especially in the summer, and this is a summer people are not going to be used to,\u201d Bernstein said. \u201cSo we felt obligated to offer the healing and fun power of entertainment as much as we could.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The new \u201cAll for One\u201d summer schedule will feature up to 35 performances from July 27 through 18, Bernstein said, including:<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u2022 The popular summer cabaret series on the Hurst Theatre stage, with special performances by Beth Malone, a Tony Award and Drama Desk Award nominee, and other celebrity headliners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u2022 Solo Flights, the second annual developmental festival of one-person shows that will be moved from September into the summer lineup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u2022 A live radio play that re-creates a classic movie-musical, complete with onstage musical elements and sound effects. The show title will be announced soon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u2022 Both Theatre Aspen Education summertime productions of Disney\u2019s Beauty and the Beast and Frozen Jr., including a full complement of arts educations programs for K-12 students in July and August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Most all performances will feature solo performers or very small group casts, Bernstein said. Theatre Aspen is committed to working with the Actors Equity Association \u2014 the labor union that represents professional actors and stage managers in the U.S. \u2014 to ensure proper workplace safety and health measures are implemented.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The company is also converting the Hurst Theatre into a 75 to 100 seat, cabaret-style space with as much social distancing in place as possible, and will abide by all state and county public health requirements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">But beyond ensuring the health and safety of its performers and audience, Bernstein said a major goal of this year\u2019s season is celebrating Aspen as a local community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">That\u2019s why on top of the new performance line-up, Theatre Aspen is also launching the Aspen Heroes Program to honor local frontline workers, dedicating the summer performance season to them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Before each performance, Bernstein said a local first responder, bus driver, grocery store employee, restaurant staff member or other frontline worker forced to put themselves at risk for the benefit of others during the COVID-19 crisis will be recognized and honored in-person.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Roaring Fork Valley residents can submit their Aspen Heroes Program nominations online at theatreaspen.org, and Nicholas Vesey, Aspen Chapel Minister, and Rabbi Mendel Mintz, founder and director of the Chabad Jewish Community Center ,will choose the heroes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI think one of the most special things that makes Aspen unique is its really strong sense of community, and we wanted to recognize that,\u201d Bernstein said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201c\u2019All for One\u2019 means we\u2019re in this together, and the idea is only through community have we made it this far and only through community will we thrive moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">A detailed calendar with a more specific \u201cAll for One\u201d summer season schedule will be announced in mid-June.
