A small group of photographers is looking to grow its numbers, and they will have the perfect event next week to get to know the shutterbugs better.
The Grand Photography Guild will host a reception from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Granby Library. About a half-dozen photographers’ work will be on display at the library while people vote for the best in show. There also will be a raffle for one of the photographs, and some work on sale.
For anyone curious about the photography guild, this might be the perfect chance to get to know the group. As it turns out, the guild would like to get to know anyone who’s interested in photography, especially if they are current or aspiring photographers as young as high school age.
“We would welcome them with open arms,” guild member Linda Spaet said.
The guild meets once a month in Grand Lake. Dues are minimal, and Spaet said there’s likely room for flexibility there too, especially for any would-be student-photogs.
She explained that guild members would be more than happy to help high school students with things like photojournalism projects. As the fledgling group of guild members grows, Spaet said, she could see them planning regular photography-laced guild events, perhaps like early morning group hikes feasting on dawn’s golden light.
“We really want to have educational programs,” she said. “We welcome anyone who’s interested in photography, whether they are beginners, intermediate or advanced, to come learn photography together.”
Sometimes, the guild stays in house. Spaet recalled a guild member once brought up cleaning cameras as a topic for discussion, and soon the guild was doing demos and comparing notes. She could see other meetings focused on topics like post-production processes, or group and individual classes designed to help people bolster their photography skills.
Listening to Spaet, she has a lot of ideas about how the guild could grow, but more than anything, the guild just wants to help, she said.
