Great Happenings in East Grand Schools the week of Jan. 24.
• Mrs. Devore’s kindergarten class made a flipbook with alphabet letters that came from all over the country. Their class made 26 “C” caterpillars and mailed 25 of them to schools around the country participating in the project. The schools, in turn, made the letter that they were assigned and mailed them to Devore’s kinders. Many of the letters had friendly notes enclosed about their school and communities, which were read and enjoyed by the class. The alphabet letters were laminated and put into a flipbook for the kids to enjoy and remember their Kindergarten Alphabet Exchange Project.
• Just a friendly reminder from Fraser Valley that our student project of the crossing guard program was enacted to help improve parking lot safety. We are asking parents to help by using the crossing zones with their children and following the drop off protocol of not getting out of the car, unless the car is parked in an appropriate space. Let’s all be safe.
• A correction from last week’s article: Some of our GES students are participating in a five-week Nordic ski program through NSCD. They’re skiing at Devil’s Thumb Ranch.
• The Middle School FIRST Tech Robotics teams had a great weekend at Coal Ridge High School on Jan. 11. Both teams were able to compete against other high school teams from across Colorado and Utah at this event with success. EGMS Metal Minds took 14th place and second runner-up for the Motivate Award, and EGMS Gadgetrons landed a 17th place finish and a first runner-up for the Think Award. Thank you to all our sponsors. We are very blessed to live in a community that supports our endeavors.
• Fraser Valley Elementary hosted its annual school spelling bee last week, and what a competition it was. After 15 rounds, Abrianna Vail was announced the FVE School Spelling Champion when she correctly spelled the word “abundance.” The top three spellers were Abrianna Vail, Ella Hawkins, and Zanna Berman, who will go on to the East Grand School District Bee in Granby to compete for a spot in the Colorado State Spelling Bee.
• The K-5 GES PE classes are midstream in their cross-country skiing unit. The three week unit started last week with dryland training inside the gymnasium with students learning how to put their skis on and move. This week and next will have the students skiing around the groomed ski trail in Polhamus Park. Thank you, Snow Mountain Ranch Nordic Center volunteers Bill Pierce, Peter Butrimovich and the town of Granby, for making this experience possible.
