FRISCO — Brett Botelho is ready to train at Copper Mountain Resort this winter with his goal of competing for the U.S. Paralympic Snowboard Team at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
But first, he’ll be sharing his story with Summit County locals Saturday.
Next Page Books & Nosh on Frisco’s Main Street will host Botelho at 11:30 a.m for a discussion about his book “Standing my own Ground: Getting Back up When it Seems Impossible,” which was released in October 2017.
The Dillon resident will detail how, from age 7, he’s experienced a domino effect of health problems after hip surgery.
Botelho’s journey includes being diagnosed with a neurological condition that left him paralyzed for two years at age 9. After multiple surgeries and wearing painful leg braces, Botelho and his doctor ultimately agreed to amputate the lower half of his left leg. The decision allowed Botelho to be more mobile and put him back on track to ride on the mountain.
