On Wednesday morning, Fraser Mayor Philip Vandernail, county commissioners, Duckels Construction, town board members and employees gathered at County Road 8 to celebrate the newly completed bridge.
“While it may not have been apparent to every driver, the bridge was in desperate need of replacement,” Vandernail said before the ribbon-cutting. “I say that because this project was an inconvenience for so many people and we didn’t take that lightly. We truly appreciate the patience and support of the community while the road was closed.”
The bridge will be open to the public beginning Friday, which is weeks ahead of the original project finishing date. Vandernail also noted the project finished under budget.
He thanked town employees, public works employees and Duckels Construction for their hard work completing the bridge ahead of schedule.
The bridge, which has received a poor inspection rating from the state for at least the last 10 years, will be replaced as part of the Colorado Department of Transportation’s off-highway bridge replacement program.
Fraser partnered with CDOT and Grand County to fund the $1.2 million project.
This was Fraser’s second road construction project completed this year, with the first being pedestrian safety improvements on US Highway 40.
