Devil’s Thumb Ranch to open winter trails on Dec. 9 and invites public to celebrate

Devil’s Thumb Ranch’s staff is excited to welcome the public back to its winter trails. The award-winning cross-country ski trails are slated to open on Dec. 9.

“There’s always lots of anticipation around the start of the ski season, but this year we’re especially excited to kick off the winter with brand new amenities while bringing back all of our favorite ski events,” said director of activities,” Marie-Ange Anderson, in a press release. “In keeping with Nordic ski tradition, we’ll be serving warm crepes from our Sawmill yurt this season.”

The expansive trail system was first opened in 1975 and features over 120 kilometers of groomed ski trails for both classic and skate skiers. There are also several trails that are open for skijoring – skiing while being pulled by a dog.

The resort and spa will be celebrating their opening day with Tommelfest, a Viking-themed Nordic festival.

This festival will include ski lessons, keg toss, Swedish meatballs and other refreshments, according to the press release. Tommelfest is done to celebrate the first cross-country skiers from Norway and Sweden. Details and registration for the ski clinics and more Tommelfest details are available on Devil’s Thumb Ranch’s website.

Members of the public can purchase a season pass online or a day pass at Zach’s Mercantile in Fraser.
